12th David Popper International Cello Competition – 2027

Preliminary Information for Contestants and Pedagogues:

While the comprehensive professional program is currently being finalized behind the scenes, we would like to assist young cellists and their professors with their early planning and preparation.

The structural framework of the competition will strictly align with top international standards and our long-standing traditions:

• Scheduled Date: October 2027

• Venue: Thury Castle, Várpalota, Hungary

• Categories and Age Groups: The competition will maintain its established age-group divisions (precise, updated age limits will be disclosed in the spring announcement).

• Official Regulations (Repertoire, Rules, Jury): Expected to be officially published and available for download here in March 2027.

Artistic Advisory for Early Preparation:

Although the compulsory repertoire will undergo minimal updates (including the refinement or exchange of 1 or 2 pieces), the core material will heavily feature David Popper’s pedagogical and artistic legacy, including his master études and character pieces. We encourage contestants to begin focusing on these technical foundations.
